Reading Alice Munro    4 Thursdays  Sept. 8 – Sept. 29. To apply: Click here and it will take you to my Contact page.

In four weeks, read and discuss four magnificent Alice Munro stories.

Munro was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2013 and proclaimed “a master of the contemporary short story” by the Swedish Academy—a loud splash for a writer whose stories are often described as quiet. The thing is, they're quiet like a needle slipping into a vein.

The four stories I’ve chosen, “Nettles,” “Post and Beam,” “Family Furnishings,” and “Comfort,” are included in one excellent collection, Hateship, Friendship, Courtship, Loveship, Marriage. We’ll unfold the stories petal by petal, for the thrill and consolation of finding meaning in a dark world. Or just for the fun of it.
